preface


With the continuous popularity of PD fast charge, PD fast charge has become a mainstream form of fast charge, which has a very wide range of applications on laptops and mobile phones. In order to enrich the charging monitoring needs of users, Canton Chip Microelectronics has launched a fast charging cable that supports digital display voltage and current, and supports USB PD3.1 48V application, effectively meeting the use needs of high voltage in the future.


A 0.96 inch display screen is attached to the cable, which can display the output voltage and current of the current charger in real time, so that consumers can know the charging status of the device. The following charging head network will disassemble the data line to show how to display voltage and current on the data line.

The biggest feature of this data cable is that there is a display control PCB board between the cables, which can display the charging voltage, current, power and other rich functions.

The middle part of the data line is welded and connected to a small PCB board. One side of the PCB board is welded with the screen and filter capacitor.

The core chip of this data cable is the UM3506-BPQH SOC chip, which is a fast charge controller supporting PD3.03.1 specifications. It has the full function of SRC/SNK/DRP support and can also support the EMARK electronic marking SOP' message interaction function, fully meeting the requirements of PD3.0. PD3.1 supports SPR, EP3.1, chunk mode of PD packets, and 260bytes long packets. Built-in high voltage LDO, support 3.3-24V power supply, flexible use.

UM3506 has 2 pairs of DP DM pins and supports BC, QC and other protocols. Supports sustainable upgrade and flexible expansion. The chip has a built-in high-performance 32-bit RISC-V core, with the main frequency up to 33MHz, built-in 8KB SRAM and 256KB FLASH, built-in 15-channel 12-bit ADC for voltage and current sampling, built-in 2-channel UART, 2-channel I2C and one SPI interface, support low side current detection, and use QFN32 encapsulation。

The step-down chip that supplies power to the single chip microcomputer and screen comes from MPS, silk screen BUK, and the actual model is MP4576. It is a fully integrated synchronous step-down converter that supports 60V input and 600mA output current, and supports USB PD3.1 48V power step-down input to reduce the power consumption of data lines.

 The data wire is fixed and welded through the plastic bracket. The red and black wires are connected in parallel as the positive electrode of the power supply. The white and yellow wires are the USB2.0 data wires.

The silver and copper wires are connected in parallel as the negative electrode of the power supply. The orange and red wires are CC and VCONN respectively.


Summary of charging head network


The length of this screen display data cable is 2 meters, which can well meet the daily laptop charging and other usage scenarios. The data line is built with a wide-core micro UM3506 SOC chip, which supports the PD3.1 48V e-Marker function and can be used as the MCU. The charging current information is collected through the built-in ADC and external sampling resistance, and the bus voltage information is collected, and the screen display is driven by the high-speed SPI interface.


A 60V high voltage step-down chip is also used on the data cable small board to supply power to the single chip microcomputer, which meets the 48V power supply voltage of USB PD3.1. The AI AW9364 LED driver is used internally to supply power to the backlight of the screen. By using the UM3506 of Canton Chip, it can solve the voltage and current sampling and display drive through a single chip, simplify the design and reduce power consumption, and can also be used in other scenarios to meet a variety of usage requirements.
